There is a poster on the TTC Line 2 Subway car. I saw it today when I was coming home. The poster shows a slogan and a paragraph of the brief introduction of TTC’s accessible design. The slogan says, “We’re making it easier for everyone to get everywhere”. The paragraph mentions their new accessible, low-floor streetcars with retractable ramps and wheelchair-friendly buses. And they plan to have elevators, wide fare gates and automatic sliding doors in all subway stations by 2025. First of all, I think the accessible design on all TTC bus is very good. Second, their plan for the future is also very friendly and efficient. But I think there is something more that could be improved. For example, the gap between the train and platform is quite big. It is very convenient and dangerous for wheelchair users to cross the gap and get on the train. Also, even though there are many priority seats, there is not space or retractable chairs for wheelchair users to posit and make their wheelchair fast. If TTC does so in the future, the subway might be more friendly and accessible for everyone.
